Process
As you surf our site and see the many wonderful items in its pages you may not realize just how much effort goes into their preparation. Let us take you on a journey through our world...

A carcass is first obtained, only through legal and ethical manners, then it is skinned, eviscerated and dried for presentation to the dermestid beetles. Our beetles don't get paid, but they do get all the dead stuff they can eat (Christmas and Thanksgiving dinners included)! Once in the beetles' den the carcass is devoured by the beetle larvae and adults until only the bones remain.

The bones are then removed from the colony, the rogue beetles evicted from the nooks and crannies among the bones, which are degreased before being taken to the whitening station. Whitening may take a day or a month (sometimes we get a specimen that has either sat in someone's freezer too long or is just plain oily).

After the specimen is a beautiful white, the bones are carefully and painstakingly "glued" back together in there original positions to form a structural masterpiece! Then a scientist, teacher, museum, zoo or collector decides they cannot live without it, and we gently pack it up and ship it out. We have the satisfaction of knowing that someone has purchased an extrardinary work of art that is the product of millions of years of evolutionary change...each one more wonderful than anything that any human could possibly design on their own!
